It likes a thin, porous, acidic, humus-rich soil with a low lime content. It flowers from its second year. Its natural appearance makes it blend well in natural and cottage gardens and it is attractive to insects, including bees.

How to grow: Arnica can be slow to germinate so patience will be needed. Sow onto the surface of a tray of seed compost in March and April. Arnica needs light to germinate so only cover with a light dusting of compost or sharp sand. Transplant in April and May when large enough to handle.
