Rudbeckia hirta

Commonly known as Black Eye Susan, these tall plants produce large gold blooms with a central dark eye.
They grow to a height of around 60 to 80cm and are a great border flower – perfect for attracting bees. They also make for a lovely cut flower to display in the home.
How to grow:
Sow from February to April thinly in trays in a greenhouse or outside for later sowings.
Transplant:
Prick out into tray 5cm apart once large enough to handle. Gradually harden off before planting out into growing site. Allow 45cm between plants.
Flowers:
July – September.
