October

In October you can plant Autumn broad beans and peas to get a really early crop the following season.  Plant garlic and elephant garlic.

Sow claytonia and spinach, winter radish and winter lettuce.

Harvest carrots and other root vegetables as ready and pick apples and pears.

Firm in overwintering brassica and stake them if necessary to prevent rocking in the windy months ahead.

Field beans and grazing rye can still be sown as green manures this month if you have any bare ground left.
