January

January is an excellent month to start planning your garden for the year ahead. Put your garden plan down on paper. Move your rotations around and list what you might grow and where. Look at varieties and choose ones that you think will suit your location and find some new things to try.

Go through your old seed packets, germinate some on damp kitchen paper to test viability and make your seed order.

Order top fruit and fruit bushes for bare root planting.

Sow sprouting seeds for winter salads.

If you have a greenhouse and a propagator you can even sow onions this early.
